Raymond van Barneveld produced a classy display to send Phil The Power Taylor packing on the opening night of Premier League Darts on Thursday. With reigning champion Gary Anderson having withdrawn from his opener due to illness, four-time world champion Van Barneveld stepped up to thrash Taylor 7-2 in Leeds to kick-start the new campaign. The mighty Dutchman had perfectly nailed his first six attempts at a double and a seventh success would have set a Premier League record, but he crucially erred in the final leg. Taylor could not take advantage, and Van Barneveld returned at his next visit to finish the job. Barney hit a 10-darter to break Taylor and go 2-1 up and never looked back. A 113 checkout from Taylor was his best moment, but he had no answer for Van Barnevelds relentless accuracy on his doubles. Michael van Gerwen hit the best checkout of the night - but it wasnt enough against James Wade Premier League players Which darts player is most like a football team? James Wade came back from losing the first three sets to hand world No 1 Michael van Gerwen a 7-4 defeat in a collision of two former Premier League champions.Van Gerwen, the 2013 winner, appeared set to begin his quest for another title successfully when he matched two holds of throw with a stunning 167 checkout - hitting 60, 57, bullseye to break Wades throw and go 3-0 up.Wade edged his way back into the match but exploded with a 118 finish to make it 3-3, then won a further two legs as a shell-shocked Van Gerwen came to terms with his vanished advantage. But Wade was in imperious form and won a sixth leg with a 121 finish, then hit bullseye to condemn the best player in the world to defeat. Peter Wright got off to a colourful start against Michael Smith Studds PL moments Rod Studd remembers the tournaments best bits Peter Wright easily swept past Premier League debutant Michael Smith in the nights first match.Snakebite entered the 2016 tournament with a bizarre record of having won just three of his last 19 Premier League matches but looked well on course to amend that statistic with three unanswered legs. Smith was able to get on the scoreboard in his inaugural appearance at this event but never threatened Wright who eventually won 7-2. Adrian Lewis had to settle for a 120 after his third dart got caught between his other treble 20s Smiths baptism of fire continued as he was crushed 7-1 in the final game by Adrian Lewis after drawing the short straw to cover for Andersons last-minute withdrawl.Smith hadnt visibly recovered from his first defeat to Wright and Lewis seized his chance, winning six straight legs after his young opponent had initially made it 1-1.Dave Chisnall recorded just the sixth whitewash in the history of the Premier League against an outmatched Robert Thornton. The Scotsman was making his return to the competition after a years hiatus but found the standard too high from Chisnall, who ripped through their match at breakneck speed without conceding a leg. I caught up with the Sussex wicketkeeper-batsman in Potchefstroom to reminisce over some of her career highlights so far…My debut, beating India Women by 100 runs, 14 August 2006 - Lords Sarah joins Ian Ward to give a wicket-keeping masterclass in 2014 I remember my first catch so clearly. Sulakshana Naik skied one off Katherine Brunt and I ran around, got under it and then juggled it before taking it; I had my back to most of the team so most of them thought it went straight in! It was a good job, too, as I was terrified Katherine would yell at me! I only found out the night before that I was keeping and I was so nervous, which was really unusual for me back then. Watching Claire Taylor score 156no before we went out to field helped calm me down a lot.The 268-run stand against South Africa Women, 8 August 2008 - Lords Sarah gives us the lowdown on her team-mates in 2015 Caroline Atkins (145) was phenomenal that day. Wed batted together for many years at Sussex and normally I was the aggressor while she consolidated, but on this occasion my innings (129) didnt come close to hers! Ive never seen her hit the ball as well as she did that day and I was happy just to stick around and enjoy it. Everything went perfectly - we ran well, timed the ball and found the boundary at the right time. The fact it happened at Lords made it extra special. My fifth 100, off 108 balls v West Indies, 3 November 2013 - Port of Spain We look back at some of Sarah best moments in all formats Ive developed a bit of a reputation for being a flat-track batsman but the wicket in Trinidad was really tough - it was slow, low and turning so to score a hundred meant a lot, especially as we ended up winning the game.dddddddddddd It was one of my best hundreds because I had to graft hard as wickets fell at the other end and then just go for it at the end of the innings. Normally Id just try to hit my way out of trouble but on that occasion I had to accept it was going to be a low-scoring game.My unforgettable year, 2009 Charlotte Edwards leads the 2009 World Cup celebrations The entire year was special - we won the 50-over World Cup in Australia and then the T20 World Cup in the final at Lords. That ODI win was the culmination of four years hard work for the girls and it was a very emotional time - a lot of the team were exhausted come the end, partly because we made really hard work of the final. Chasing 167 we were cruising it but then lost a few wickets before Holly Colvin hit the winning runs. It was pure elation when she did - I remember running out on to the pitch to celebrate. It still gives me goose-bumps just talking about it.Catching Australias Jodie Fields, third Ashes ODI, 25 August 2013 - Hove Watch Sarahs brilliant catch in the Womens Ashes in 2013. I only realised how far Id dived when I saw the pictures after the game! Ive always thought that if the ball is on the stumps and a batsman shapes up to paddle or reverse it then theyre in trouble if they miss, so I can hedge my bets and try to get across and cut off the shot. Id done it once before in a game, actually - catching Beth Morgan. It relies on pure reaction speed and this catch was definitely all in the moment. On playing my 100th ODI… Celebratory cake could be on the menu for Sarahs 100th cap I dont think its going to hit me until the day. Playing for my country means so much, so to reach such a milestone and share so many memories with team-mates over the last 10 years is very special. The girls have been brilliant about it and I feel very lucky that all of the hard work and effort Ive put in has brought me to this point. Its just insane! I so want to get there and I wish the first ODI was my 100th not my 99th!Follow England Womens three-match ODI series against South Africa on Sky Sports digital media then watch England Womens T20I series against South Africa, live on Sky Sports from Friday 19 February.
