Coyle could still see some competitive action this preseason, but its something to monitor.Nashville Predators: While the Predators gifted, young defense has attracted the lions share of positive attention this autumn, the corps up front isnt devoid of young talent either. Otherwise, Smith-Pelly could be in for a blockbuster campaign.New York Islanders: Rookie center Mathew Barzal remains a strong candidate to make the Islanders out of camp. With Mikhail Grabovski (concussion) out for the foreseeable future, the 19-year-old also might secure himself the third-line centers gig, along with valuable power-play minutes. Chosen 16th overall in 2015, Barzal racked up 88 points in 58 games with the WHL Seattle Thunderbirds last season.New York Rangers: Young forward Pavel Buchnevich is fighting hard for an NHL job in his first season in North America. If he succeeds, the 21-year-old KHL export can be expected to challenge Harvard product Jimmy Vesey for a gig among the Rangers top-six corps of forwards.Ottawa Senators: Updating the injured status of Mark Stone (concussion), the Senators top-line forward is expected back in the lineup soon. The 24-year-old followed up a breakout performance in 2014-15 with 61 points in 75 games this past season. Theres always some concern when it comes to concussions, but feel confident in drafting Stone.Philadelphia Flyers: Montreals Mikhail Sergachev isnt the only Russian teen projected to earn a spot on an NHL blue line in his first pro season. Flyers prospect Ivan Provorov has likely done enough to carve out a regular role for himself with the Flyers in 2016-17. Drafted seventh overall in 2015, the 19-year-old collected 73 points with the WHL Brandon Wheat Kings last season. Fantasy owners should note that a top-four role isnt out of reach for Provorov if he adapts quickly.Pittsburgh Penguins: Looks like 21-year-old Tristan Jarry will be tasked with providing relief if Marc-Andre Fleury falters between the pipes to start this season. With Matt Murray (thumb injury) out for a period of weeks, Jarry should get an opportunity or two to strut his stuff and impress the Pens coaching staff; you know, much like Murray did this past spring.San Jose Sharks: Anyone doubting goaltender Martin Jones ability to adequately follow up last seasons effective play with much of the same should know that an untested Aaron Dell -- 27 years old without a single NHL appearance to his name -- is penciled in as San Joses No. 2. But also realize Jones hasnt exhibited any indication of stumbling in his second full season as the go-to starter, either.St. Louis Blues: St. Louis top six is taking shape without Jaden Schwartz, whos out approximately four weeks with an elbow injury. Standouts worth mentioning for fantasy owners include prodigal Blue David Perron on a line with Jori Lehtera and Vladimir Tarasenko, and sophomore Robby Fabbri flanking center Paul Stastny and Alexander Steen.Tampa Bay Lightning: We can probably rule out an offer sheet for Nikita Kucherov -- as noted by Craig Button -- considering the cost. And while the restricted free agent remains in need of a fresh deal, both sides have expressed the desire to make it happen. Hopefully for Lightning fans and Kucherovs fantasy owners, the process doesnt drag on too long.Toronto Maple Leafs: Despite Thursdays poor preseason result -- a 6-1 loss to the Canadiens -- 2015 first-round pick Mitchell Marner (fourth overall) is expected to get a taste of NHL action to begin the campaign. And TSN analyst Ray Ferraro recently suggested Leafs fans (and obviously, fantasy owners) should feel excited about Marners prospects, particularly if he remains on the wing alongside 2016 No. 1 pick Auston Matthews.Vancouver Canucks: Swedish league export Anton Rodin is eyeing a lineup spot on opening night after an impressive camp with the Canucks. Considering Vancouvers lack of depth up front -- and that Rodin averaged more than a point per game in an injury-shortened 2015-16 season -- the 25-year-old is a viable option to slide in among the top six.Washington Capitals: Nursing a lower-body injury, versatile forward Marcus Johansson is still going to need a little bit of time before returning to competitive action. Whether a little bit stretches into the regular season or not remains to be seen, but the issue doesnt appear all that serious. Often underrated as a fantasy asset in deeper leagues, the power-play performer scored 17 goals and 29 assists in 74 games last season.Winnipeg Jets: With Ondrej Pavelec, Connor Hellebuyck, and Michael Hutchinson vying for the starters job in Winnipeg, fantasy owners are advised to steer clear of the Jets goaltending fray until further notice. If insisting on gambling on one of the three, Hellebuyck seems to be the marginal front-runner for the job, and is certainly the most valuable from a long-term perspective.
