Each week, The Reporters put their thumbs out to the good and the bad in the world of sports. This week they discuss Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment, the "worst rule" in pro hockey, Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper and the NHL trophy finalists. Cathal Kelly, Toronto Star: My thumb is down to Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment and the way theyve handled the hiring or firing of Bryan Colangelo; their president and general manager. At this point, Colangelo should either be in or he should be out. We are a month gone from the NBAs regular season closing and yet we wait. We wait for what; we dont yet know, decisiveness is key here and MLSE has failed on that point. Steve Simmons, Sun Media: My thumb is down to the worst rule in pro hockey. Weve seen it now 20 times in the Stanley Cup Playoffs - the delay of game for flipping the puck over the glass. We saw in Game 2 of the Kings-Sharks series basically costing San Jose the win. Youre fighting for every inch of ice in the playoffs and this rule has to go. Michael Farber, Sports Illustrated: My thumb is down to Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper for lunacy. He went back for a fly ball and collided with the right field wall at Dodger Stadium on Monday in Los Angeles and turned a double into a triple. This was a one-sided game in the late innings and he compounded everything by saying he would do it again. He will always play hard, but play smart. Dave Hodge, TSN: Thumbs have gone up and down every day lately as the NHL rolls out its trophy finalists. There was an interesting criticism of the Hart Trophy nominees from Ryan Getzlaf, who charged that voters in the East were in bed when he and the other top players in the Western Conference were playing, but, so what? The voters could have stayed up all night and not done better than Crosby, Ovechkin and Tavares. So my trophy beef isnt with the hart, but rather, with the Norris, where the voters mightnt have been asleep, but did they just happen to have their eyes closed every time Zdeno Chara played a game? Im thinking thats the only way you miss him as a Norris finalist, as big as he is and as valuable as he is to the Boston Bruins. Vapormax Weiß Deutsch . General manager Jarmo Kekalainen told Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch on Friday that he wants to see Gaboriks contributions go beyond the scoresheet before considering a long-term deal for the soon-to-be unrestricted free agent.Roy Hodgson does not believe Jamie Vardy dived at the weekend and has sympathy for the striker following his angry outburst that could see him miss yet more of Leicesters title run-in. Vardy was shown a second yellow card after going to ground under pressure from Angelo Ogbonna during Sundays 2-2 draw with West Ham, with referee John Moss judging he tumbled too easily, prompting a furious reaction from the England striker that has left him with an FA improper conduct charge. The 29-year-old has until 6pm on Thursday to respond to the charge, which could extend the existing one-match ban that currently rules him out of the home clash with Swansea on Sunday, live on Sky Sports. Vardy (L) reacts angrily after referee Jonathan Moss shows him his second yellow card But Hodgson insists he has no problem with Vardys attitude, saying: You take everything that the player brings with him. You take Wayne Rooney - he, in my recollection, was pretty hot-headed, often getting himself into scrapes on the field, but you take what the player brings. Vardy got sent off at the weekend, but once again I will go out on a limb: I dont see that. I dont see that as a dive. I just dont. I think he was unbalanced. I dont think it was a penalty either, I think he was unbalanced, running at that speed.I think there was a very slight sort of contact with the defender, who was trying to cover. I think he went down, he lost his balance. I dont think he was trying to dive. Vardy tangled with Ogbonna But of course all the pundits I hear they say, He dived, look how he dived.dddddddddddd I dont see it. I really dont, Im sorry. I wouldnt blame him for that. I sympathise with him, I think he was very, very unlucky. When you get sent off for something where he obviously feels like I feel - there is no doubt he is of that opinion. Roy Hodgson has no worries about Vardys discipline But now he has had to swallow the fact that he has been made to leave the field and then, unfortunately, he has reacted like sometimes human beings react. He hasnt just said to the ref, Thanks very much, I understand. He has called him a few names, but he is a human being and that can happen. The Leicester striker had earlier put his side 1-0 up But I think our disciplinary record over the last few years has been pretty good. I think it will remain good, but I cant guarantee you that a Vardy, a Rooney, or a Dele Alli, or anyone else for that matter, is not going to do that.
